Ex-Maine lawmaker admits pulling gun on stranger

AUGUSTA, Maine — A former Maine legislator will serve 45 days in jail on charges of pulling a loaded gun during a confrontation with a stranger in a doughnut shop parking lot.

Former Republican state Rep. Frederick Wintle pleaded guilty on Thursday to criminal threatening.

A lawyer for the 59-year-old Wintle said the incident in Waterville last year was a result of mental illness that Wintle was treated for shortly afterward.
