gop County Chairman Pleads Guilty To Illegal Campaign Contributions #324

Former Mercer County GOP chair pleads guilty to pay-to-play violations at Birdsall engineering firm

A former Mercer County Republican Party chairman pleaded guilty today for his role in a scheme to avoid the state’s pay-to-pay law by making illegal campaign contributions while working as a director of marketing for the engineering firm Birdsall Services Group since 2008.

“Mr. Angarone, whose former firm receives millions of dollars each year in government contracts, admitted he and others at the firm participated in a corrupt scheme to evade New Jersey’s pay-to-play law, which is meant to stop companies from using political contributions to improperly influence the awarding of such contracts,” Attorney General Jeff Chiesa said in a statement.
